2005 Ljubljana, Slovenia 41st AMF Bowling World Cup - November 13th to 20th 2005
Gladiator Ready for the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup
The Gladiator Bowling Centre in Ljubljana, Slovenia, is already buzzing with the excitement and anticipation of hosting the 41st QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup from November 13th to 20th.
The centre is part of a vast leisure, entertainment and shopping complex. It was industrial storage warehousing until Slovenia became independent and has now been developed in a way which is sure to please visitors and players alike.
Gladiator Bowl is the largest bowling centre in Slovenia and is equipped with the latest brand of QubicaAMF bowling equipment. The internal design is stunning and the centre is bright, warm and welcoming. A large and spacious entrance hall leads through to the lanes and an attractive and uncluttered bar area. The overall impression is very much of a modern, vibrant and exciting place.
The 28 lanes are High Performance Synthetic Lanes, with 82-90 XL pinspotters, Options and Magic Triangle front end equipment, and the exciting Xtreme glow lighting complete with Glowtrack lanes. It has a state-of-the-art Proshop stocked with the latest products and the new AMF300 Velocity ball due to be released in the Autumn will be available at a special World Cup price. Upstairs is devoted to billiards and pool, with an additional bar and windows looking out over the lanes. As Borut Knavs, Manager of the Bowling and Billiard Centre, says: “We have 31 tables including 29 Playmaster billiard tables and Gladiator may be the only centre in the world with more billiard tables than lanes!”
Borut, who was one of the prime movers to bring the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup to Slovenia, continued: “We are very proud of the Gladiator centre. It opened in May of this year and builds on our experience in our Maribor centre in the north-east of the country. Bowling is a growing sport in Slovenia and the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup will be a great showcase in bringing bowling to a wider public. We are looking forward to welcoming bowlers from over 90 countries to Ljubljana and we can promise them a memorable time here.”
Within the bowling centre is further entertainment in the shape of video games and, on the lower ground floor, ‘Terminator’, a futuristic laser gun game. A restaurant is being constructed next door, linking into the bowl, and will be in full swing well before the competitors arrive for the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup.
The centre is proving to be a hit with local people with Xtreme bowling and the disco nights particularly popular with the young student population of Ljubljana. League and club play starts in September. Many of the regular players have already volunteered to help at the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup.
