Aumi still top!

Belgium makes the cut again on day four of the QubicAMF Bowling World Cup

Katrien Goossens of Belgium made the cut for the top 24 in the ladies’ section of the 47th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Johannesburg, but it was a close run thing. She has a 20 game total of 3976. Both Luz Adriana Leal of Catalonia and Daria Pajak of Poland were only two pins away from spoiling Katrien’s dream of a third top 24 finish in the three Bowling World Cups she has played in.

Her coach, Herman Pellegrons, said: “Katrien played in the first squad so it was a long wait and very nail-biting. I feel sorry for Luz Adriana and Daria but of course I am very pleased that we made it again.”

Milki Ng of Hong Kong also just snuck in, a mere one pin ahead of Katrien on 3977.

Top of the leaderboard, as expected, is Aumi Guerra of the Dominican Republic, who again had the high five-game set with 1142 – though that included a 158 game! Her running total is 4863.

Lying in second place on 4528 is Diandra Asbaty, herself a former champion having won the title in 2006 in Caracas, Venezuela. Third is Sherie Shi Hua Tan of Singapore on 4455 with Krista Pollanen of Finland in 4th on 4408.

The top 24 play a further eight games today, looking to advance to the top eight who will play a round robin tomorrow. The cut at present is a 212.05 average, held by Wendy Kok of the Netherlands.
The tournament is taking place at the Let’s Go Bowling South Africa centre in Northcliff, Johannesburg. The finals will take place on Wednesday 7th December.
