First names announced for 49th Bowling World Cup
The names are coming in thick and fast for the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, in November.
Among the names so far announced are two former champions: Tore Torgersen of Norway and Caroline Lagrange of Canada.
Tore was our champion in 1994 when the event was held in Hermosillo, Mexico. But he first played in the tournament two years earlier and has played a five times in all. In 2000, in Portugal, he finished runner up and was one of two players to hit a perfect game. His last appearance was in 2003 when he finished 5th.
Caroline won in Melaka in 2009. She is one of five Canadian women to take the title home.
Paul Moor from England will be making his fifth appearance in the finals. He must like Russia as he last competed in St Petersburg in 2007 when he finished 5th. He will be joined by Autum Chamberlain, sister of Mark who played in Wroclaw last year and finished in the top eight.
The Australian competitors will be Kate Pilkington and David Porto both of whom are QubicaAMF staffers. Several of the other players have already been to one or more World Cups including Sara Ataei of Iran.
Anne-Marie Board, QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup Manager, said: “It will be wonderful to welcome all returning players again and particularly Tore and Caroline. Tore has been one of the top players for quite a long time now and is a real friend of the World Cup. And Caroline impressed us all with her standard of play in Melaka. Our hosts are making very good progress with all the arrangements and I know they are laying on lots of very attractive events for the players and guests. The city of Krasnoyarsk and the area around it are simply lovely. It has a world famous ‘banya’ or spa not to mention the amazing skiing resorts which we expect to visit. We will also be able to go to visit the beautiful Yenisei river, which is one of the biggest and fullest river in all of Russia. I’m sure this will be one of the best World Cups ever.”
