Women Top 24 decided
The 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Krasnoyarsk has now reached the end of the qualifying blocks for the women and we know who will go through to the next round.
The final set of six games saw the second 300 game for the women from Marie Lourdes Arles of the Philippines. She said afterwards: “This is my first time playing this event and I am very excited. I did not expect to bowl 300 and I am very pleased with the way I am playing so far.”
Caroline Lagrange of Canada remains our leader, hitting 1507 today. All the top five hit over 1400 and a further 13 women shot over 1300.
The cut for the top 24 fell at 5002 (a 208.42 average) with Nataliya Shcherbinina of the Ukraine just making it through ahead of Cristina Sanz of Catalonia who shot 1301 today but it was not enough and she finishes in 25th on 4967. That is still the best result ever for a Catalonian woman.
Three other countries achieved their best ever results in the women’s section by making the top 24: Aruba (Thashaina Seraus), Romania (Luminita Farkas Bucin) and Turkey (Gulhan Aksular).
The overall average for the 64 women in the tournament was 196.96, six pins a game up on last year.
The top 24 women will bowl a further six games tomorrow, after which the cut will be made for the top eight. At the moment 8th place is a 224 average.
