Engelberto Rivera of the Philippines heads
Engelberto Rivera of the Philippines heads the leader board after the first five games in the 46th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Toulon, France, with a total pinfall of 1181, a 236 average.
Ham Chieh Kwan of Switzerland is in second place on 11590 with former champion Mohammed Khalifa Al Qubaisi of the United Arab Emirates a further 14 pins behind.
Engelberto, known as Biboy, said afterwards: “I didn’t bowl well in practice and gambled on a different game plan when we started. I bowled a little straighter and that gave me more room for error, plus I got good carry.
“I’m very pleased with the way I played today but there is still a long way to go.”
Nicolas Forestier of France is currently in 9th place on 1085 and the high game so far is 289, shot by Alejandro Reyna of Costa Rica.
All the bowlers will play 20 qualifying games before there is a cut to the top 24. At present the cut is a 205 average with Stephen O’Connor of Ireland on the cut line. The overall average for all the men is 192.5.
The women’s event gets underway this afternoon (October 18th).
