Min-Young Gye of Korea on top
Min-Young Gye of Korea consolidated her position on top of the leader board after the qualifying 16 games in the 46th QubicaAMF with a five-game set of1082 to give her a total of 3556 (a 225.25 average). In 3rd place is Wendy Chai of Malaysia, our leader after day one, on 3415 with Fiona Banks of England in 4th on 3409.
"I'm very happy first of all to be picked for this World Cup and I must not let my country down," confessed Gye Min-Young. "My team-mate Choi Yong-Kyu won the men's title last year on his first attempt. I hope I can carry on that historical feat."
This is the stage where some of the players are eliminated from the competition. The top 24 only will bowl a further 8 games tomorrow (22nd October).
Prathima Hegde of India is the 24th player, just edging out Canada’s Felicia Wong with 3091 to 3089. Prathima, who comes from Banglaore, was delighted and said: “I made the top 24 last year in Malaysia and finished 21st so my aim now is to move up the table and at least match my performance last year. Bowling is a relatively new sport in India and success on the lanes helps get us some good publicity.”
The next round will determine the top eight to go through to the round robin. At present, Natsumi Koizumi of Japan is in 8th with Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of the USA in 9th. Also making the top 24, in 14th position is the champion of 2007, Ann-Maree Putney of Australia.
