Asia show the way for the women - 2010 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup - Toulon, France

Wendy Chai of Malaysia heads Min-Young Gye of Korea by eight pins after the first five games of qualifying in the women’s section of the 46th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup. The event is being held in Toulon on the French Riviera.

Wendy’s total pinfall is 1126 , a 225.2 average, with Min-Young on 1114. In third place is Holly Fleming of Scotland on 1090. Also in the top ten are Helen Johnsson from Sweden, who is making her 7th appearance in the Bowling World Cup and has never finished lower than 6th, and England’s Fiona Banks, runner up in 2005 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The cut for the top 24 is currently on a 196 average with Christine Gablek of Austria on the cut, just ahead of Nadeya Abdulrahman.   Nadeya reached the top eight in 2005.
"This is my third attempt at this World Cup and I'm determined to do better than the last two," said Wendy who is a member of the Malaysian national squad.  "I used a brand new bowling ball and it worked well.”

Holly’s performance was a surprise to many – including herself. “I’m speechless,” she said, “and I’m never speechless!”

The women will bowl their second set of five games today (19th) with a further two sets of five to determine the top 24 for Friday’s quarter final.
