Statement by John Walker, CEO of QubicaAMF

Tournament organising committee
The beautiful Bowling de Provence, host centre for the 2010 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup, is the biggest bowling centre in the whole of France, having been extended earlier this year from 28 to 44 lanes.
Unfortunately, while the lanes were being dressed prior to the second squad of play today, a lane technician noticed some dust falling from a concrete column at one end of the centre. Closer examination showed there was a crack in pillar supporting the ceiling in that part of the centre.
John Walker, Chief Executive Officer of QubicaAMF said: “The safety of all our guests – bowlers, coaches, officials, journalists and other visitors - is our paramount concern and we immediately stopped all activity in that part of the building.”
The architect who designed the centre and the structural engineer were called to site immediately and they undertook a full examination of the building. They advised on the best way to add temporary support and to ensure the safety of everyone. This process took several hours and is likely to continue into the early evening.
In the meantime the tournament organising committee decided it was in everyone’s best interests to cancel play for the day.
John Walker continued: “At this time we are anticipating starting play again tomorrow morning (October 20th) and the committee is working on the new schedule. We will be talking to the players and coaches very shortly to let them know the latest position and to assure them of our support.”
